Mindy has been part of the Goodwill West Texas family for nearly three decades, making her the 2nd longest-tenured employee in our history. Her journey is one of resilience, determination, and the power of finding purpose. In 1996, after a life-altering accident left her disabled and uncertain about the future, Mindy found a new path when Goodwill opened its 4th store in Brownwood, Texas. She applied—and the rest is history. Over the last 29 years, Mindy has fulfilled her purpose in helping others- though not in the way she originally planned! She has brought joy, encouragement, and compassion to countless people with her bubbly personality and contagious smile. Thank you for your incredible service, Mindy! Her story reminds us that everyone has unique challenges and gifts—and that sometimes the greatest impact can come from something as simple as a smile. After being released from prison with no job, no identification, no housing, and no transportation, Shatana turned to the Goodwill West Texas Career Center for help. Through free, one-on-one support funded by donations and thrift store sales, she received assistance obtaining her birth certificate, Social Security card, and driver’s license, along with the emotional support and connections to housing resources she needed. With these barriers removed, Shatana secured employment and continues working toward long-term stability and reunification with her children. After more than 20 years in law enforcement, Sonja moved to West Texas due to a family matter. While seeking employment with local law enforcement, she took a job as a school janitor to make ends meet in the meantime—but a sudden injury turned her world upside down. A series of events led Sonja to the Goodwill West Texas Career Center for help. There, she received assistance with housing, obtained a new ID, and eventually found her calling through the Foster Grandparent Program. Because of a prior experience with the Goodwill West Texas Career Center, he knew if he moved back to the area, they would be able to help him. His Employment and Resource Specialist helped him obtain his CDL and a job as a truck driver, but most of all, they helped him find hope and confidence again.
